Bei Schweißzusätzen handelt es sich um Stoffe, die beim Schweißvorgang aufgeschmolzen werden und mit dem Grundwerkstoff zusammenfließen.
Im Gegensatz zu spaltlosen Schweißverfahren wie dem Punktschweißen,
die ohne Zusätze auskommen, bilden die Schweißzusatzwerkstoffe bei spalthaften Verfahren wie dem Verbindungsschweißen die Schweißnaht bzw. die Beschichtung beim Auftragschweißen.
Sie bestimmen gleichzeitig die Eigenschaften der Schweißnaht bzw. Beschichtung wie Festigkeit, Verformungsfähigkeit und Korrosionsbeständigkeit.
Bei Lagerung und Transport von Schweißzusätzen gilt es stets darauf zu achten, dass insbesondere Produkte wie Schweißpulver und ummantelte Stabelektroden absolut trocken gehalten werden,
denn feuchte Zusätze können sich negativ auf das Schweißergebnis auswirken und die metallurgisch-mechanischen Eigenschaften der Verbindung verschlechtern.
