WIG-Kupferwerkstoffe
Generell lässt sich die Schweißeignung von Kupfer und seinen Legierungen als gut bezeichnen. Wegen seiner außergewöhnlich hohen Wärmeleitfähigkeit werden jedoch größere Schweißstromstärken als bei anderen Werkstoffen benötigt.
Das wiederum stellt besondere Herausforderungen an die Wasserkühlung des Schweißbrenners,
und gleichzeitig erfordert es besseren Schutz des Werkers vor der Hitze des WIG-Schweißprozesses.
Größere Bauteile müssen außerdem zusätzlich vorgewärmt werden. Kupferwerkstoffe werden üblicherweise mit Gleichstrom und negativ gepolter Elektrode geschweißt.
Werkstoffe die eine Oxidschicht ausbilden, wie Aluminium,
Magnesium und deren Legierungen, werden hingegen im WIG-Wechselstrom-Verfahren geschweißt.
